Champions League 2012-13: The Top Supercups Allocated

The previous weekend gave us lots of exciting supercup matches with a large number of goals scored.

Juventus Supercup 2012
On Saturday the Italian champion met the national cup winner in Beijing. This was the first match for Antonio Conte to be absent due to his disqualification. Another important name missing in the Juve squad was Giorgio Chiellini. This could be the reason why Napoli found it too easy to pass through the Turin side defense. After some beautiful goals from both sides the score was 2-2 before the teams went on to the extra time.
The 9-man Napoli had not much to offer either in the defense or in the attack, so the champions easily scored twice, to win their fifth supercup in the history.

On the same day there was a supercup match between the two Istanbul teams. The atmosphere at Galatasaray-Fenerbahce matches is always electric. No exceptions this time. And the teams didn’t plan to disappoint their fans either. As the classical scenario suggests, the score was 2-2 by the last minute of the match, when Galatasaray was awarded a penalty, which was successfully converted into the 12th supercup in the club’s history.

Vincent Kompany of Manchester City with Community Shiled trophy
There had to be scored some other 5 goals in the English Supercup clash, where Chelsea met Manchester City. Before Londoners conceded three goals in a spell of twelve minutes in the second half, they were in front both by goals and red cards. Torres had scored and Ivanovic was expelled. The fabulous goals of Manchester City’s Yaya Toure, Carlos Tevez and Samir Nasri made Joe Hart’s substitute Costel Pantilimon’s mistakes irrelevant. The champions won their fourth Community Shield.

The last supercup match took place in Germany, where Bayern had to rehabilitate for all the trophies they lost last season. After only 10 minutes of football Mario Mandzukic showed the German football elite why he was acquired by the Munich side. The champions and cup winners from Dortmund had 80 minutes to cancel the difference of 2 goals. They could only solve half of the problem. Lewandowski could not score more than once and Bayern took the trophy for the fifth time in the history.

Bayern SuperCup 2012

Of the other matches of the week it is worth to mention Porto’s last minute goal, which brought them the 19th supercup.

The Russian derby between Zenit and Spartak ended with an unexpected score. The champions smashed the Moscow side by glorious 5 goals to 0, sending the home crowd into ecstasy.
We are expecting the Spanish and German leagues to start this weekend, with the Sunday clash between Real Madrid and Valencia being the top priority.

About Me

My photo
I am a professional football watcher. I watched the WC '94, when I was 10 years old and have had no success in quitting with this. I promised R. Baggio to give tribute to his Juventus and Italy team ever-since, as he missed that damned penalty. While watching matches I always try to analyze every fact before, during and after the matches. This makes me feel I am an expert. Everyone is welcome to start a conversation on any football-related topic. You would just make me a huge favour. Besides, I am a hopelessly lost gambler. A player, not only in the game, but also in life! I live in Denmark. I am married, which, of course, prevents me of watching football 24 hours a day. My daughter was born in 2011. This fact is neither a football-friendly one, but it does not disappoint me. I am making my first steps in professional scouting with one of the local companies. If this profile sounds something close to you, I would warmly welcome you to follow my blog, where you'll read about everything I mentioned above. I promise to post an article every week. Let's say Saturday. So here we go!
